DESCRIPTION: Ionantha is a species of plant in the genus Tillandsia. Peanut is the smallest growing variety in the species. As you can see, it has a slightly bulbous looking base, and it easily develops into clumps over time. Ionantha is native to Central America and Mexico. It is also reportedly naturalized in Broward County, Florida. Tillandsia ionantha was described by Jules Emile Planchon and published in Flore des Serres et des Jardins de l'Europe between 1854 - 1855. In nature, Tillandsia ionantha has been found growing in both xeric and mesic tropical habitats. This makes the species very beginner friendly as it tolerates a wide range of light and watering routines.
